The charge for this service is $25 for the first hour which includes the cost of postage and up to five photocopies and $20 for each additional hour. When requesting assistance please provide specific information regarding the information desired (obituaries, land records, Dawes index, etc.), the name of the individual, the date or estimated date if unknown, and the location. Oklahoma does not have a publicly accessible statewide birth, death, or marriage index. However, material has been collected for some counties and is available to us for look-up. Some tribal marriage records are also available. The History Center has an extensive collection of microfilmed Oklahoma newspapers. Newspaper search requests should include date and location of event. We can also obtain death certificates for you. In addition to the fee above, please send $15 (non-refundable) for the search and certificate fee. Keep in mind that Oklahoma did not keep records prior to October 1908, it became mandatory in 1917, and remained sketchy until 1940. Wait times can be one-two hours. We will bill you for a second hour if the time exceeds one hour. (See note below to order direct from OSHD.) To order birth and death certificates directly, please visit website of the
Oklahoma State Department of Health. Marriage certificates may be ordered from Clerk of Court in the county of issuance.
